DJ 5ive - Las Vegas

He’s either standing behind the turntables or sitting at the poker tables. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. And maybe a little sleep, but that’s his business. Whichever tables you find him at, just keep in mind that DJ 5ive is dangerous. Groomed in one of the epicenters of turntablism, Cerritos CA, it was a simple task for DJ 5ive to become the top seed in Las Vegas, Nevada. With DMC-caliber skills, impeccable mixing, a vast knowledge of music and a love for hip-hop that has spanned decades, DJ Five has emerged as the one definitive go-to man in Sin City’s burgeoning nightlife industry. He was voted the #1 DJ of 2006 in Las Vegas’ eyes-and-ears, Las Vegas Life magazine. When pressed to reveal what has put him there, he states, I can smoke, drink, text message, dance, mix and cut all at once. DJ Five currently plays as a resident at Tao in LasVegas.

Gail + Tony = Hot Pink!

November 20th, 2008 by grandmasterchan

Back in August I contacted my homies out at PASMag to do a feature on Tony Swartz’s S2000.  The car is well built and really stands out due to the quality of parts and Yoshio Pink paint scheme.

After the P10 show in Fargo this year, Gail got together with Tony to shoot it in Fargo.  Well the story is now up on the PASMag website and will soon be in print on the newstands.

Much props to Gail for the shots, Tony for all the hardwork in building the car and Dave Pankew for writing the story!

As Pharoah Monch would say….”Throw your hands in the sky (BO! BO! BO! BO!)”

2003 Nissan 350Z

How long have you been in ZuCru?: 11 years

Yes, besides the exotics, my favorite car was the Nissan 300ZX TT

You use to own a 2003 Nissan 350Z, do you ever regret selling it? and do you plan on buying another Nissan in the future?: No regrets about 350Z, buying or selling. The experience of ownership was memorable, but we all mature and move on. Tastes and needs change.

Friendship and camaraderie. I’ve learned that people change and friendships can overcome great distances.

That fateful night with the Jetta. Not a happy memory, but I think it changed my outlook on life.

Can you tell the readers something that they don’t know about you?any special skills?:
Nope, just an average guy.

Props to Mr. Reehal

November 3rd, 2008 by grandmasterchan

Happy November!

Props go out to my homie and Team SCP teammate: Amee Reehal.  Amee just won the Pirelli Photogaraphy awards for published and unpublished photos of the year.

Been a helluva year for Amee as he just got married and has now won these 2 prestigious awards.  I know alot of Zucru members are into automotive photography, so I thought I’d post up his pics and links.

Press Release:

Both 2008 Pirelli Photography Awards presented to same
journalist — Amee Reehal

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON  - October 23, 2008

The Pirelli Photography Awards are presented to AJAC members each year
honouring the best in published and unpublished automobile photographs.

Photography is part of the Pirelli culture. The company has created one of the
world’s most well known photographic traditions – the Pirelli Calendar.  The
calendar was launched in 1963 from Pirelli’s London office as a gift for privileged
customers, its concept a take-off on the pin-up popular with automobile
manufacturers. But the subtlety of its images and the quality of its photographers
made the calendar a coveted collector’s item.

To his considerable credit, the same AJAC member won both major awards this
year. The 2008 Pirelli Award for Best Un-Published Photograph and the Pirelli
Award for Best Published Photograph go to Amee Reehal of Calgary. It’s worth
noting that the judging is done with the photographer’s name hidden, which adds
to Reehal’s dual win.

In the Un-Published Category, the runners up are Bradley Horn and Brian Early.

In the Published Photography category, Russell Purcell, a first place winner last
year, and Justin Pritchard are the runners up.

In addition to the prestige of the awards, Anthony Paulozza, Marketing Director of
Pirelli Tire Inc presented Reehal with a visit to the Pirelli-sponsored Jim Russell
Racing Drivers School in Mt Tremblant as well as a collector copy of the Pirelli
calendar.

The judges for the award are celebrated photographers Clay Stang and Derek
Shapton of Toronto and Alana Riley of Montréal, all national and international
award winners in their field.

written and interviewed by Cliff Almazan

Name:Francis Ramos

Username(s):RS13

Age:23

Occupation:SSG

Current Ride: 1989 Nissan SIL-80

Past Ride(s): Cavilac, Civic, 240SX, Camry, Accord

How long have you been in ZuCru?: 2 years

What factors made you consider purchasing your current ride and why?:Always been a big fan of Initial D and drifting. I also wanted a car that was a little bit more different or unique in the city, I was also inspired by the first time I rode in a IMPUL SKYLINE. The experience of riding JDM and feeling that boost sealed the deal.

How did you first hear about ZuCru?: I learned about the cru through one of my best friends, Jonathan Lam taught me a lot about the car scene and the cru along with Ryan Venzon.

What does it mean to you to be part of the ZuCru Team? and what have you learned so far?: To be part of the cru to me represents a network of great car enthusiasts and even more, a sense of deep friendship that is equivalent to family. And I feel as though I am part of the league of extraordinary HATERS!

You recently attended the Perfect 10 Car Show in Fargo, ND, did you take home any awards? I was honored with 3rd place in the Nissan class and Best JDM car.

How did it feel when you won Best JDM/Nissan?:
I was grateful for being awarded 3rd place in the Nissan class and even more honored to receive best JDM. I felt very surprised and very flattered. It was all very unexpected.

Tell me, do you have any big plans for your car in the future? and what are they?: I have some plans for next summer, mainly some new deep dish rims, maybe a DVD screen for the inside and MAYBE a custom sunroof.

Can you tell the readers something that they don’t know about you?any special skills?: I believe firmly in hard work, no special skills needed to have a strong sense of perseverance.

Any special shout outs you’d like to say?:
Shout outs to Jason, Shane and Freitag from Tintmasters and Lamska. And to my younger brother Jake.

PASMAG - October 2008

October 28th, 2008 by grandmasterchan

The October 2008 issue of Performance Auto & Sound Magazine (PASMAG) is a big one for Zu heads. It features a DTP Winnipeg writeup by yours truly and pics of ZuCru friends:

Brent Mills’ G35
Dannie Riel
Danville’s Midori Green Civic
Tony Swartz’s Yoshio Pink S2K
Speedtech’s NSX
Lyndon from AccessWinnipeg

In addition this is also new ZuCru member Gail Tolentino’s(initial_gt) first set of published pictures. Gail shot local tuner Anthony DeGuzman’s (of local Twinz fame) monster G35. The article is written by my good homie Dave Pankiew and he throws in some good comments about Winnipeg.

Big ZuCru issue so you better cop it soon as the November issue will be out very shortly!

DJ Jazzy Jeff - Oct.24/08

October 23rd, 2008 by grandmasterchan

DJ Jazzy Jeff will be at Blush Ultraclub on Friday night.   Couple of us are gonna hit it up as it promises to be a good time.

I was at the Scion party 2 years ago during SEMA in Las Vegas and it was probably the hypest party of all that week.  The joints that DJ Jazzy Jeff were throwing down just kept all us hiphop head throwing our hands in the air to give props to the DJ.
